Certified Reference Microorganisms
What are Vitroids? Vitroids™ discs contain viable microorganisms with a certified number (ISO/IEC 17025), of Colony Forming Units (CFUs). They are produced under reproducible conditions (ISO Guide 17034) with strains obtained from CECT® . The discs consist of bacteria or fungi in a solid water-soluble matrix, which rehydrates easily – no rehydration fluid necessary! Microorganisms in this form are stable for at least one year and are in a viable stage (no lag phase or recovery time). Each batch is provided with a comprehensive certificate of analysis that specifies the mean number of CFUs, an expanded uncertainty, details about the method used for certification, and the number of passages (subcultures) from the original strain.

Use: The CFU ranges are designed to minimize or eliminate the need for serial dilutions – saving you time and decreasing the chance for contamination. The discs dissolve in liquid media as well as directly on agar plates (no rehydration fluid necessary) – saving you even more time.
For added flexibility, most solid and liquid medium or rehydration buffers can be used. We recommend buffered peptone water. The disc can be rehydrated in as little as 100 μL, or in larger volumes, e.g. 100 mL medium.
It is also possible to add the disc to a molten medium used for pour plate techniques.
The rehydration process takes approximately 10 minutes regardless of media type. On solid media, for example, the disc forms a droplet that can be spread with a sterile loop. In liquid media, the disc dissolves quickly and easily.
